How to Increase Your Productivity with This One Simple Practice

19/11/2017 by Kulraj

That feeling.

Nothing beats it.

Ending your work day, and knowing – deep down – it’s been a good day. A productive day.

Not only have you got a lot of work done, but you’ve got a lot of important work done.

Work that moves your business forward, planting seeds for potential new channels of customers, making that big step towards sealing that all-important contract that may secure a long term and fruitful business relationship.

It’s in our nature to want, seek, desire, crave days like this.

Truthfully, though, you’re probably sick of hearing about productivity ‘hacks’ by now.

Every great blog boasts their famous post about productivity hacks.

Sometimes you just wonder ‘I’m sure my most productive days weren’t the result of these random superstitions’.

Truthfully there are things you can consciously do every day to improve your productivity. Today I would like to share one that science shows works, and it’s nothing too strange:

The Top 5 Must-Read Happiness Blogs

30/05/2016 by Kulraj

top happiness blogs

This month I’ve decided to share with you the blogs I find most informative regarding the science of happiness and happiness psychology.

There are currently very, very few blogs that contribute robustly to this topic, and because of this limited choices to pick from, this list is very small.

Blogs are an interesting and new phenomenon. The reason I think they are great is because they allow people with a genuine interest in a topic to share their research, thought processes and opinions on different topics.

As I’ve mentioned before, I believe the study of happiness to be of extreme importance, and I regard it a skill in the same way I regard cooking, sports, creativity and every else a skill.

Regular research and study allows you to develop your understanding of that subject deeply which in turn develops your ability to implement what you know into your own life with better reason and justification.

****Cautionary note: Please remember these are only my favourite blogs, it’s important to note assume there are not also other excellent blogs online. I simply have a preference to very thorough, long-form, practical, and non-controversial style articles.

So here are my ‘go-to’ blogs at the moment (likely to change in future as blogs always change themselves – I’ll be sure to let you know if updated):

Happiness and Age: Does Happiness Change as You Get Older?

30/04/2016 by Kulraj

happiness and age

We all age. It’s a truth we all currently have to face.

We must deal with the only non-replenishable asset we are all born with: time.

Seeing as all human beings have the same goal to be happy in life, it’s natural to wonder how our happiness may or may not change as each day passes.

Clearly this is a subjective question, as is with most questions related to happiness.

However, we all know about the term ‘midlife crisis’ – and recently I’ve been curious to know whether there was any truth to this.

Does happiness really dip dramatically after our 30’s and increase after our 50’s?

First, let’s see what some of the research shows.

Does Being Materialistic Reduce Your Happiness?

31/03/2016 by Kulraj

materialism and happiness

It might seem obvious, right?

Especially to someone like yourself, who actually takes an interest in the study of happiness.

You might think, “of course materialism does not make us happy!”.

What fascinates me, however, is that even though we all agree on this, why does society seem to still drive towards materialistic goals?

Why is most, if not all, success defined by materialistic achievements.

Is there something we’re missing, something we have not yet taken into account with regards to our knowledge of how to develop and culture true happiness?

Let’s have a look.

The Ultimate List of Happiness Psychology Resources (Including Articles, Videos and PDFs)

28/02/2016 by Kulraj

ultimate list of happiness psychology resources

Happiness is a wonderful thing. For years now I’ve written about different specific topics regarding how to live a happier life, but for a long time I’ve wanted to create somewhat of a ‘one-stop shop’ resource page for you that will be regularly updated.

The goal of this resource page is to gather the most interesting and effective work on happiness psychology that’s ever been made available to the public.

It’s a work in progress and I look forward to updating it as new research, videos and articles come out.

Being a relatively new field of study, our scientific understanding of happiness is still growing, with some areas of deep controversy and debate.

This is good, though, as it gives us a chance to think critically, question the research and points being made and begin to create opinions on different topics independently.

How Watching the News Effects Your Happiness

31/01/2016 by Kulraj

how watching television effects happiness

It always surprises people when they find out I don’t watch the news or read newspapers.

A common response is ‘well how do you know what’s going on in the world?!’

My natural response is deep concern.

It concerns me that people think the news gives an accurate representation of what’s going on in the world.

It concerns me deeper that many people make reading the newspaper or watching the news a part of their daily routine.

I never had a reason for not consuming commercial news when I was growing up, I just disliked consuming negative information in general, so I never did.

As I got older I began to question why the news presented such a lopsided ratio of negative to positive content, and continued to still avoid the news.

I wasn’t aware of any of the research at the time, and it’s been refreshing to learn that there has been some scientific interest in the effects of consuming commercial news on one’s happiness.

Following this curiosity, I continued to avoid commercial news, and still do to this day.

The question in my head became: is the news we hear about through our radios and televisions helpful or not to our development as individuals, psychologically?

Although there has been some fluctuating viewership numbers for news channels in the recent year, the numbers still all remaining in the many millions.

Is there some value that I am missing by avoiding the news, something that I am naively not owning up to in my pursuit of happiness?
